Termite Treatment for Your Home
Request an estimate today
Termites are small insects that eat the wood in your home. They work inside walls, floors, and beams. Most people never see them until the damage is well along. That is why a quick look from a trained provider matters.
Enormouswear Pest Control is a referral service. We do not treat homes ourselves. We connect homeowners in Richmond, CA and the Richmond area with independent providers in our network. This page tells you what you can try on your own, what needs a pro, and how to keep termites from coming back.
Think You Have Termites? Start Here
Termites are tiny insects that eat wood. They hide inside walls, so most homeowners find them late. If you see a sign, act this week.
Request a callback to check provider availability, or use the request form. A provider can tell you what you have and what to do next.
What You Can Safely Do Yourself
Try, then call. A few steps help and cost little:
- Take clear photos of what you see, with a coin for size.
- Write down the date and the room.
- Fix leaky taps, pipes, and gutters.
- Move firewood, boxes, and wood scraps away from your walls.
- Keep the pest. Seal a few in a bag or jar so the provider can name them.
Do not spray store-bought bug killer into a wall. It only hits the insects you can reach, and it can scatter the rest.
What Needs a Trained Provider
A termite colony can hold thousands of insects. It often lives in soil or deep in the wood. Hardware-store products cannot reach it. Providers use special tools to find hidden damage. They also use treatments sold only to licensed pros.
Why Termites Need Prompt Attention
Termites never take a break. They chew day and night. A small problem in spring can turn into a costly repair by the next year.
Damage also spreads. Once they get in, they can move from the floor to the wall to the roof frame. Early action keeps the repair small.
Know the Warning Signs
Signs are easy to miss. Check these spots slowly, with a flashlight.
Mud Tubes
Mud tubes are thin brown lines on walls or foundations. Termites build them to travel safely. Look near the slab edge, crawl space, and garage.
Wings and Swarmers
Swarmers are winged termites that fly out to start new colonies. You may find piles of thin, clear wings on window sills. That means a colony is close.
Hollow Wood and Tight Doors
Tap baseboards and door frames with a screwdriver handle. A papery or hollow sound is a red flag. Doors that stick, or paint that bubbles, can also point to termites.
Types of Termites
The type decides the plan. A provider will name it during the visit.
Subterranean Termites
These live in soil and travel up through cracks. Homes on slabs and raised foundations can both be at risk. They need moisture, so winter rain can raise the risk.
Drywood Termites
These live right inside dry wood. They need no soil. Long dry seasons suit them well. Look for tiny pellets that look like sand or pepper.
Dampwood Termites
These like very wet, rotting wood. If you have one, fix the leak first.
How Termite Treatment Works
Most visits follow the same path.
The Inspection
The provider checks the roof line, attic, walls, crawl space, and slab edges. Then they explain what they found in plain words.
Liquid Soil Treatment
For ground termites, the provider treats the soil around the home. Termites that cross the zone carry it back to the colony.
Bait Stations
Bait stations are small tubes placed in the yard. Termites eat the bait and share it. The colony slowly dies out.
Spot Treatment or Whole-Home Treatment
Drywood termites in one board may need a spot treatment. A larger spread may call for sealing and treating the whole house. Ask which fits your home and why.
Termite Inspections for Home Sales
Buyers and lenders often ask for a termite report. The provider checks the home and writes up what they find. Book it early. If the report lists problems, you will have time to fix them before closing.
Choosing a Termite Provider
Ask simple questions before you agree to anything:
- Are you licensed in this state?
- What type of termite do I have?
- What method will you use, and why?
- Is the quote in writing?
- What does a follow-up visit include?
Get a written quote. Compare more than one if the job is large.
After Treatment: Fix It, Then Seal It
Treatment stops the insects. It does not repair the wood. Ask the provider which boards need to be replaced. A builder or carpenter can do that work.
Seal gaps around pipes, vents, and the slab edge. Fill cracks in stucco. Termites use even tiny openings.
Keeping Termites Away Long Term
A few habits make a big difference:
- Keep soil and mulch a few inches below the siding.
- Point gutters and sprinklers away from the walls.
- Store firewood off the ground and away from the house.
- Fix leaks fast.
- Book a yearly check, especially for older homes.
Request a callback to ask a local provider about a yearly check.

No obligationTermite Treatment FAQ
Can I get rid of termites myself?
Rarely. Store-bought sprays kill only the insects you can see. The colony stays hidden in soil or wood. You can help by fixing leaks and clearing wood, but a trained provider should treat the colony.
How do I know if I have termites or just ants?
Termites have thick waists and straight antennae. Flying ants have pinched waists and bent antennae. Wood that sounds hollow, or mud tubes on walls, point to termites. A provider can confirm it for you.
Does homeowners insurance cover termite damage?
Most policies do not cover slow damage like termite damage. Some may cover sudden damage, so check your policy. Providers can often help document damage for a claim.
